Today, senior citizens and the physically handicapped have a recognized need for accessible and affordable housing. The mission of the John H. Wellons Foundation, Inc. is to answer this need and provide dignified alternatives.
Through the Foundation's initiatives, hundreds of seniors and handicapped persons are living today in modern, comfortable, affordable apartments. More than 30 locations throughout NC, SC and VA already have been built, renovated or are currently under construction. Each unit is carefully planned and built or renovated to provide every convenience possible for its residents.
Founded in Dunn, NC by its namesake in 1950, the John H. Wellons Foundation, Inc. was created from a commitment to the residents of the local community and throughout North Carolina. Mr. Wellons operated the Wellons Candy Company successfully for twenty years employing as many as 250 employees.
Throughout his life, Mr. Wellons was deeply involved with his church, as well as serving on the board of numerous civic organizations and universities. His heartfelt compassion for others has since guided the Foundation members. In its early years, the Foundation provided deserving students with college loans. To answer the changing needs of the fast-growing NC population, it has since expanded to provide the development and management of senior housing apartments.
The John H. Wellons Foundation, Inc. is proud to manage the properties that we sponsor. The property management division is Wellons Foundation Management Services (WFMS). “To provide a better quality of life for those who reside in our communities” is our mission.
Wellons Foundation Management Services has specialized in managing affordable properties since 1990. The staff of WFMS possesses decades of experience as well as degrees and designations within the housing field and related areas.
We are a successful management company due to the hard work and the attention to details such as maintenance of the physical premises to assure superior physical assessments, ability to handle after-hours and weekend emergencies, accurate management of tenant files for superior management occupancy reviews, thorough applicant screening, direct supervision of on-site staff and an emphasis on community atmosphere for resident retention. Our audit record reflects exceptional compliance in overall management.

WFMS has developed excellent working relationships with many of the regulatory agencies such as U. S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, North Carolina Housing Finance Agency and Quadel. Our relationships with these agencies allow us to further our mission of providing affordable housing to the elderly in accordance with program regulations.
